WEARY BYSTANDERS

We believe that international media has given way to a misrepresentation of the state of Mexico’s War on Drugs. This certainly has a bearing on the economy, international cooperation, and the position of Mexico in the international community. We also believe that this manipulation is frequently upheld in bad faith.
The aim of our news observatory is to reach out to a larger audience, and grant international access to the thriving, yet sometimes localized, critical journalism on the current situation in Mexico.

Calderon created “mayhem” and psychosis everywhere in Mexico and destroyed Mexico’s image all over the world by sending the armed forces to fight crime on the streets and among the innocent population.  Viridiana Rios, a scholar from Harvard University seems to think differently.   To make my point I will remind you about the search and persecution of those believed to be responsible for the Boston Marathon explosions. People were asked not to go out unnecessarily, and a state of fear overcame the whole population.  There had been a violent encounter between supposed criminals and the authorities.  The Bostonians were right to be afraid to go out. Is it useful to ask who started the war on drugs in Mexico?…

Once again the American battle drums are being beaten for a ‘humanitarian intervention’ in the Syrian civil war. The excuse is very well known. It is a rerun of the ‘weapons of mass destruction’ discourse. But we know what lies behind this farce.  This new postmodern crusade is being fought for the sake of energy and free markets.   By pointing out and emphasizing Syria’s people as victims it then becomes easy to make them conventional and temporary symbols that justify intervention. But this end-means rationality has backfired on numerous occasions, as shown in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. The search for the suspects   My sister Tesalia lives in Cambridge, Massachussetts, with her husband.
