Mexico is a country where many Central and South American Migrants traverse while taking a huge leap of faith, as well as spend the little resources they got at their disposal, to be able to get employment in the United States.  Currently, there is another noteworthy migratory phenomenon: the wealthy Mexicans who dwell on Texas’ gated communities, many of them who choose to move after experiencing brushes with violence or being directly attacked themselves in Mexico.

The Los Angeles Times article "Wealthy business-savy Mexican immigrants transform Texas city" by Molly Hennessy-Fiske gives an interesting view of what the War on Drugs is like for people of means and how they are responding to the challenges faced within their communities.  What it does not delve into, but still hints at, is that the people in this wealthy Miami-Cuban style Mexican neighborhoods in places like Sonterra in San Antonio relate to their families and fellow Mexicans as if they were the lucky ones for being able to get away.

This shows that the War on Drugs has affected a great deal of people who have had to flee the country, but that many of those who are more able to shelter themselves from the violence do not care much for the communities they left.  They did not do so before terrible events befell them.

Hennessy-Fiske's take helps in making up one’s mind about the social dimension of the conflict, and to delve into the underlying tensions within Mexican communities and society which are also a source of violence.
